People choose to talk to a therapist for many different reasons—some are specific: coping with the death of a loved one, living with a life-threatening illness, the loss of a job or significant relationship, challenging couple or family relationships, or the need for ways to deal with anger or anxiety. Often it’s because of feeling a general dissatisfaction with life, the desire to problem-solve a situation or discuss a life transition. No matter the reason, there may be a sense that it is time to seek help outside of your current circle of support.
Studies have shown that the most important element leading to a successful counselling experience is the relationship between the client and therapist. Therefore, it’s important that you find a therapist that you feel comfortable and safe with; that you feel will listen to your concerns and travel with you on your healing journey.
