Even thinking about talking to a therapist requires courage and you’ve taken the first step.
People choose to talk to a therapist for many different reasons—some are specific: coping with the death of a loved one, living with a life-threatening illness, the loss of a job or significant relationship, challenging couple or family relationships, or the need for ways to deal with anger or anxiety. Often it’s because of feeling a general dissatisfaction with life, the desire to problem-solve a situation or discuss a life transition. No matter the reason, there may be a sense that it is time to seek help outside of your current circle of support.
The Importance of Finding “Your” Therapist
Studies have shown that the most important element leading to a successful counselling experience is the relationship between the client and therapist. Therefore, it’s important that you find a therapist that you feel comfortable and safe with; that you feel will listen to your concerns and travel with you on your healing journey.
As a way of helping you to determine if I am the right therapist for you, I offer a free, 30 minute phone session. During the call we can talk about what is bringing you to therapy and how I think I may be able to help. If you feel that working with me may be a good fit, then we can schedule our first session.
I encourage you to spend time on this website, exploring the areas of concern that I may be able to help you with, my approach to counselling, blog posts and the specifics of taking part in therapy with me. If you feel that information in the blog posts may be helpful to others, feel free to pass them on. New blogs are posted on a weekly basis, and there is a place on the site to subscribe so that you don’t miss a posting.
Thanks for visiting Blaikie Psychotherapy and I wish you well in your search for healing.
